Bowl by South Australian artist Connie Augoustinos for Collect exhibition Making Spaces.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Presenting work by Connie Augoustinos, Ebony Heidenreich, Ashlee Hopkins, and Kerryn Levy, with prints by Georgia Cheesman
In 2019 South Australian Printmaker Georgia Cheesman visited the studios of four JamFactory tenants, Connie Augoustinos, Ebony Heidenreich, Ashlee Hopkins, and Kerryn Levy. Inspired by the creative spaces these ceramic artists occupy in their time at JamFactory, Georgia documented their surroundings and translated them into intricate lino prints. These will be presented in the JamFactory Collect show Making Spaces, alongside works made by each of the four artists. Together the prints and ceramics give a snapshot into their creative studios.
*Any work sold from Making Spaces will be shipped upon the completion of the exhibition, on November 8th.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Connie studied visual arts at the University of South Australia, specialising in Ceramics. Whilst studying she was an assistant teacher in the Ceramic Department and continued to teach during her time in the Associate Training Program at JamFactory, which she completed in 2017. Select pieces from Connie's graduate exhibition were acquired by the Art Gallery of South Australia.
"Material and process are the driving forces of my practice. In my first six months as an Associate in the JamFactory ceramics studio, my focus shifted towards hand building. This slower and more intuitive way of forming clay allows for every mark of the hand to be apparent, fixed forever in the object. I’m presently exploring qualities of scale, form and surface in larger one-off pieces and smaller series of multiples."
