Cup Project - Porcelain Cup by Susan Frost
Cup Project - Wheel-thrown porcelain Cup with relief detail and pale blue glaze by South Australian artist Susan Frost.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The Cup Project was born out of a need for community as the world went into isolation. Over three months, nine artists, made up of JamFactory ceramics' staff, Associates and studio tenants, worked on their own range of mugs, cups, beakers and goblets, either from home or safely from their JamFactory studios. This special range of drinking vessels was fired in a collective gas firing at JamFactory – a quiet marking of time as we all start to slowly move back into the world. Featuring works by Ashlee Hopkins, Connie Augoustinos, Deb Odell, Hannah Vorrath-Pajak, Jordan Gower, Kerryn Levy, Sam Gold, Stephanie James-Manttan and Susan Frost.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Susan originally worked in retail buying and administration, before taking up ceramics whilst spending time living in the UK with her husband. Though she had previously taken a variety of creative classes, there was something about clay which really resonated with Susan. After moving back to Australia in 2006 she was keen to pursue ceramics, and in 2009 was accepted into the JamFactory Associate Program, allowing her to focus on her practice full-time. Now based in Adelaide, South Australia, Susan wheel throws her vessels and functional pieces in Southern Ice porcelain. Colour, form and function are a particular focus of her pieces and are made to be used and enjoyed every day.
