Cup Project - Shino Cup by Ashlee Hopkins
Cup Project - Shino Cup in reduction fired stoneware by South Australian artist Ashlee Hopkins.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The Cup Project was born out of a need for community as the world went into isolation. Over three months, nine artists, made up of JamFactory ceramics' staff, Associates and studio tenants, worked on their own range of mugs, cups, beakers and goblets, either from home or safely from their JamFactory studios. This special range of drinking vessels was fired in a collective gas firing at JamFactory – a quiet marking of time as we all start to slowly move back into the world. Featuring works by Ashlee Hopkins, Connie Augoustinos, Deb Odell, Hannah Vorrath-Pajak, Jordan Gower, Kerryn Levy, Sam Gold, Stephanie James-Manttan and Susan Frost.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Ashlee’s craft based practice is rooted in the rigour of repetition but expands into spaces of spontaneity and solitude. Her training as a production potter revolved around the craft of reproducing a single object as accurately as possible in quantities of sometimes hundreds. Her recent works explore how ignoring this training can allow her mind and body to create new objects that stand alone - perhaps with similar counterparts but never copies.
