Brooch in various fibres and copper, by Canberra based artist Sally Blake.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Sally Blake is a visual artist based in Canberra, Australia. She was awarded a PhD from the School of Art and Design at Australian National University in 2015.
Sally's practice is concerned with visualising the complex interconnections between the human and natural worlds through textile and paper-based media. To reveal these connections, she works with natural processes and materials such as plant dyes in the creation of artworks.
Currently she is researching ACT eucalyptus as indicators of place. This involves collecting physical data (dyes from the leaves and barks) and emotional data from people’s stories about the eucalypts to create a complex understanding of place. The project is a meaningful way of linking art and science.
