Indigo and Foliage: Introduction to Natural Dyeing | 1 DAY
In this intensive single-day workshop, students will have the opportunity to explore the diverse beauty of colour that can be extracted from natural pigments under the guidance of textile and furniture designer Ivana Taylor. After creating a natural fermented indigo and boiled native foliage bath and steam, participants will be guided through the process of adding both rich and subtle colour to a range of natural fibre textiles, experimenting with colour depth and making patterns using resist techniques.
This course is suitable for complete beginners. All required materials are supplied including natural linen, cotton and hemp for dyeing - participants are also welcome to bring their own natural fibre textiles and textile items (such as pillowcases, scarves or small items of clothing) to work with on the day.
Ivana Taylor is a textile artist with a practice that spans sculpture, object and lighting and is represented by Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert. An alumnus of JamFactory's associate program, she is also currently the Furniture Studio's Production Manager.
