Intermediate Sand Casting with Mixed Metals | 1 DAY
In this one-day workshop, Kirra-lea Caynes will be teaching the 'twice cast' technique of casting two different metals into the same design using a combination of copper/silver and brass/silver. Designed for students who have completed the Beginners Sand Casting Workshop or jewellers with sand casting experience.
Participants will be guided through several demonstrations, each showing some variations on twice cast techniques before applying these techniques on three set projects of their own design concept. Students can expect to complete the workshop with 3-4 cast pieces.
*please note that no time is allocated during class to clean up your castings; you will need access to a jewellery studio (or book into JamFactory's Metal Studio Access here) to finish off your pieces in your own time.
All required materials are provided, including enough metal (30g of sterling silver, 10g of copper and 1g of brass) to practice and create up to four pieces with the option to purchase more metal if required.
There will be a variety of solid objects available to mould and cast, however you are welcome to bring your own to explore and use in the casting process. You may also bring your own metal if you wish to personalise your project with your own materials.
