Introduction to Cone 8 to 10 Glaze Development | 8 WEEKS
Please note that all short course participants (from 2022 onwards) must be fully vaccinated in order to attend class, unless a medical exemption applies. A covid-19 vaccination certificate or proof of medical exemption from SA Health must be supplied upon enrolment (upload above).
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of glaze development. You will be given the tools to be able to construct a base glaze or glazes and develop colour through the use of various oxides. Participants will be shown how to 'read' a glaze by viewing finished samples, before glazing and firing a series of test tiles using a range of sampling techniques.
All required materials (ceramic test tiles and glaze) are provided. Suitable for students with little or no experience in ceramics or glazing; this course is ideally suited for ceramicists looking to progress their knowledge and skills in glaze development. Students can expect to take home a selection of glazing recipes that can be incorporated into their own practice.
The course will be run by Peter Andersson whose ceramic practice has spanned over 30 years. A significant part of his practice has been deeply ingrained with glaze development.
