Introduction to Cone 6 Midfire Glaze Development | 8 WEEKS
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of mid fire glaze development. Designed for students with little or no experience, you will be given the tools to explore mid fire glazes with an emphasis on cone 6 glazes.
Mid fire glazes have become increasingly popular in recent years allowing for glazes to be designed to be fired at lower temperatures but still maintain the durability and stability of their higher fired cousins. Participants will be shown how to assess a glaze by viewing finished samples before glazing and firing a series of test tile and be guided through methods to construct a base glaze or glazes and develop colour through the use of various oxides.
All required materials (ceramic test tiles and glaze) are provided. Suitable for students with little or no experience in ceramics or glazing; this course is ideally suited for ceramicists looking to progress their knowledge and skills in glaze development. Students can expect to take home a selection of glaze recipes that can be incorporated into their own practice.
This course is run by Peter Andersson whose ceramic practice has spanned over 30 years. A significant part of his practice has been concerned with the exploration and development of glazes with an emphasis on developing surfaces to enhance both form and function.
