Level 2 Jewellery: Torch Enamelling and Experimental Casting | 7 WEEKS

Regular price $550.00

Designed for students who have completed the introductory course in silver jewellery, refine your jewellery-making and fabrication, and gain new skills in two specialised techniques. Students will learn how to create torch-fired enamel jewellery with a variety of colours and pattern applications, and experiment with a range of casting methods in molten metal in this 7-week course.

This course will be delivered in two main components, covering the following skills and processes:

Torch-fired Enamel
Students will be guided through the safe use and preparation of metal for torch-fired enamel pieces through a range of test pieces and a finished project such as a pair of earrings and/or a pendant. Students will have the freedom to design and fabricate their own forms before curving or doming their pieces for enamel application, firing, stoning and completing general clean-up of their finished project(s).

Experimental Casting
The second half of the course will cover water, pasta and cuttlefish casting in silver to form jewellery pieces in a variety of forms and textures. Students will be introduced to the process of melting sterling silver using high heat and crucibles, preparing various ingots and experimenting with water and pasta casting, as well as the safe and effective use of cuttlefish bone to create moulds and cast molten metal into the bone. Castings will be used to form various jewellery pieces of student's choosing (such as rings, earrings or pendants).

All required materials are supplied including copper, enamel, 25grams of sterling silver for casting and 30cm of sterling silver earring wire. You may choose to purchase extra silver for casting or findings for finished pieces if desired.
