Liliri - Shadow (Ngarrindjeri) by South Australian artist Sonya Rankine for Tarnanthi exhibition Spaces Between.

Ngarrindjeri, Ngadjuri, Narungga and Wirangu artist and weaver Sonya Rankine shares the truth of her country's history and the impact of colonization on traditional practices. Weaving is not just art for her, but a crucial practice for cultural revival and maintenance, an integral part of her identity as an artist.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Sonya Rankine is a proud Ngarrindjeri, Narungga and Ngadjuri woman and business owner of Lakun Mara. Sonya is an award-winning artist who received the 2019 OUR MOB Don Dunstan Emerging Artist prize, 2021 NAIDOC SA Artist of the Year, exhibiting artist of the 2021 Tarnanthi Art Exhibition at the Art Gallery of SA and the SILVER – SALA Festival 25th Anniversary Exhibition.

A reflection on practice and creating reflection in the pieces

THIS EXHIBITION IS PRESENTED AS PART OF THE 2023 TARNANTHI FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER ART. THE WORKS ARE DISPLAYED IN THE ADELAIDE RAILWAY STATION CONCOURSE. 

THE EXHIBITION RUNS UNTIL JANUARY 23rd, 2024. ANY SOLD WORK WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR COLLECTION OR DELIVERY IN THE WEEKS FOLLOWING THIS DATE.
