ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Tjunkaya Ken is a Pitjantjatjara artist born in Adelaide. She grew up in Amata community in the APY lands with her family, then returned to Adelaide to finish her schooling. Tjunkaya has been an artist from a young age, consistently developing her style, and experimenting with diverse materials and processes. She comes from a family of strong leaders and these family connections are an important part of her personal life and artwork.
Tjunkaya comes from a long line of well established artists known as the Ken sisters from Amata who she shares the same grandparents with, originally from the Piplyatjatjara region of the western part of the APY lands. Tjunkaya has found painting under the guidance of her sisters has helped her learn about her Tjukurpa and songline connection of her grandparents country.
Tjunkaya has a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and a Masters Degree in Narrative Therapy and Community Work. Tjunkaya currently paints at Iwiri Arts studio in Adelaide and has sat on the board of director's for Iwiri Anangu corporation since 2019.

Iwiri is a member-based Aboriginal Corporation for Anangu (Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara people) who live in Adelaide. Iwiri brings the Anangu community together through the lenses of Arts, Language, Knowledge, Culture and Community.
Many Anangu live in Adelaide to access health and other opportunities. Iwiri strengthens the community through cultural activities, language and enterprise development.
