Ellipse Incense Burner
Ellipse Incense Burner by Jasper Goldney
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jasper Goldney is an emerging jeweller and metalsmith working artist on Kaurna land who specializes in a mix of contemporary and traditional Japanese techniques. He has a deep passion for entomology, and through his work brings attention to the beauty and ecological importance of our native Australian insect life, and the struggles they are facing. His work consists of a mix of intricate jewellery, as well as larger objects and sculptural work, with each aspect of his practice being in constant dialogue with the other.
Straying from his typical subject matter of insects, the Ellipse burner series emerged from a desire to make functional and beautiful ritual objects. The ritual action of lighting incense invites a moment of pause in your day, a moment to reflect and take a breath. The subtle curvatures, and simple but elegant form of the Ellipse Burner were designed to draw you in, even inviting you to pick it up and feel the gentle tactility and weight of it as it brings calm to the space it inhabits.
