All required tools, materials and safety equipment are provided unless otherwise specified in the course description.
Please wear fully enclosed shoes and comfortable clothing for the studio, and bring a drink bottle and glasses if you have a prescription(s).
Participants and Experience Level
Workshops are suitable for participants aged 18 and over (unless otherwise specified). JamFactory endeavours to provide an inclusive and accessible learning environment for all students; if you have any special requirements or particular enquiries, please get in touch prior to booking.
No prior experience is required for our ‘Introduction’ level courses.
Intermediate and Advanced classes will require recent completion of the corresponding Introductory course at JamFactory or equivalent; please refer to the short course descriptions on our website for requirements specific to your course.
Our teaching studios are wheelchair accessible, however if you do require wheelchair access please contact us ahead of time so we can confirm there is suitable access for the required facilities and equipment for a particular class.
Booking Policy
Please note that due to the fixed overhead costs and limited class numbers available for each class, all workshop and short course bookings are non-refundable and apply only to the dates booked. We are unable to offer refunds, exchanges or transfers into future terms, or provide catch-up classes, transfers into other class times or partial refunds if a participant is unable to attend the full term.
You are welcome to transfer your booking to another participant if desired (simply inform us prior to the first class, or have them provide the original name on the booking upon attendance of the first session). Please note that for courses involving multiple sessions, we can only accommodate one participant per booking and any transfers must be made in full for the complete term.
Course Cancellations
Please note that if minimum numbers are not reached, courses may be cancelled. In the event of a cancellation, participants will be notified two weeks prior to the start date and receive a full refund.
Gift Vouchers
Gift vouchers for short courses can be purchased online here and are redeemable within three years on any class in our Furniture, Ceramics, Glass or Metal/Jewellery studios. Vouchers are issued digitally and can be used when making a short course booking online or over-the-phone.
Program Dates
Our full-term short courses generally run for 7-8 weeks, with four terms or rounds of courses per year: term 1 from February to April, term 2 May to July, term 3 August to October, and term 4 from October to December. Please note that specific term dates are subject to change year-to-year, and some shorter courses, single-day workshops and intensives may fall outside of the term dates. CERAMICS WORKSHOPS
Location: Level 2, JamFactory Adelaide, 19 Morphett Street, Adelaide
Please note that you will be using materials that can stain clothes; please dress accordingly, and wear enclosed footwear for the studio. For wheel throwing workshops, please bring an apron and an old towel, and keep long hair tied back.
Collection of work: your work will be fired and ready for collection approximately 2 weeks after your course completion date; you will receive an email once your pieces are ready to collect. Due to limited storage, pieces not collected within 4 weeks will regretfully need to be disposed of.
Notes on glazes and firing: ceramics can be unpredictable, and the outcome of the firing process cannot be guaranteed. Please note that pieces may crack, warp, or even explode during the firing process – insufficiently compressed clay and pieces that are too thick or thin can contribute to this.
Glazes are comprised of a combination of ingredients and many factors contribute to the final fired result; some natural variation in glaze finish is to be expected. Even slight changes in firing atmosphere, cooling schedule, and ingredient supply can impact the colour and behaviour of a glaze. The glaze thickness, application method, and layering of different glazes can also affect how the finished glaze appears.
All pieces must be clearly labelled with a 5mm margin between the bottom of the glazed area and base of the pot. JamFactory is not liable for incidental damage or loss of work due to insufficiently labelled pieces, incorrect glaze application or ‘typical’ casualties. If work is irreparably damaged or lost due to technical malfunctions or manual error, students will be reimbursed for course fees (partially or in full depending on the extent of the damage).
