Introduction to Wax-cast Jewellery | 6 WEEKS

Regular price $495.00

In this six-week introductory course, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of wax-cast jewellery making - a process in which wax is manipulated into a form from which a mould is created to cast a finished piece in metal. This course will cover working with various types of wax with different properties using a range of construction and decorative techniques to achieve different forms and finishes.

Over the first four sessions, students will be shown how to make a signet ring (carving a precise design from hard wax) and an organic sculpted ring, as well as how to apply melted wax for additional decorative elements. Participants will be encouraged to make a minimum of three pieces, including a project of their own choosing. Students will have the option to cast all or some of their pieces at an additional cost, in sterling silver or gold. Wax pieces will be weighed prior to casting to provide an indication of the casting fee to be paid.

In the final two classes, students will receive their various raw castings in silver and/or gold and be shown how to finish them to an industry standard; cutting, filing and polishing as required to transform their rough castings into finished pieces, ready to take home.

This class is suitable for complete beginners. All wax, tools and moulding materials are supplied as part of the workshop, however outsourced casting and silver costs are charged per item based on weight.
