Extruded Vase (Large)
Extruded Vase (Large) by Bridget Saville
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Bridget Saville is an emerging artist and designer based on Kaurna Country (Adelaide). Working primarily with clay, her practice has focused on ceramics since 2022. In 2023–24, she undertook the Ceramics Associate Program at JamFactory, one of Australia’s leading craft and design institutions.
Her body of work ranges from functional designs to sculptural pieces, all grounded in strong conceptual foundations. Bridget's interest in a concept-driven approach to making was sparked during her studies for a Bachelor of Interior Design at RMIT University, where she graduated with first-class honours in 2020. Her academic journey refined her research skills and her ability to explore cultural and ontological connections.
Proficient in both wheel throwing and hand building techniques, she also enjoys developing tools and jigs to further test and stretch the limits of the material. Her most recent works explore extruded forms that take inspiration from architecture, the physicality of the human body, and spontaneous movement that involves the use of gravity. This process allows intuition and unpredictability to collide, resulting in unique and expressive forms.
I seek to investigate the responsive qualities of clay through my practice. I am drawn to clay as a material for its transmutability, taking interest in the dynamic nature of working with clay and exploring the unique forms that emerge through process.
