5 FORMAL CPD POINTS

Hosted in JamFactory's Furniture Studio, students will be guided through the process of machine-shaping with a router, simple joinery and hand-finishing techniques to create a timber picture frame.

Learning Outcomes:
This course will focus on tools, techniques and practices for efficient and consistent timber construction, including:

  • overview of the use of different types of woodworking jigs for improved accuracy and productivity; in particular mitre sleds, spline cutting, router and picture frame clamping jigs.
  • commonly-used machinery and hand tools used in small and large-scale production, including hands-on use of a panel saw and router table
  • tips and tricks for creating secure and precise joinery
  • finishing techniques (sanding, applying a protective finish and hardware)

This professional development program will comprise an informal information session, discussion, hands-on demonstrations and practical application of knowledge through a small skills-based project; a solid timber photo frame.
