The Bent Stick and the Sculptural Form | 5 DAYS
A Masterclass in Bending Wood and Expanding Practice with Ross Annels
What happens when rigid becomes plastic? When stiff material surrenders to heat, moisture, and intention?
This masterclass is an invitation to listen differently, to hear the language of wood not as fixed and unyielding, but as responsive, alive, and full of possibility. Participants will be guided through the application of steam, heat and pressure to coax timber into arcs, folds, and unexpected gestures; not only to learn technique, but to feel where material resistance softens into material collaboration.
This is not just a class in how to bend wood, it is a conversation with the material at its edge. For designers, sculptors, makers, furniture builders and the curious alike, The Bent Stick and the Sculptural Form is a place to play, to experiment, and to follow the curve wherever it might lead.
This process-driven intensive will cover a range of timber bending techniques including steam bending, hot-pipe bending stock and kerf bending, with investigation into how these processes may be applied to extend an individual's creative practice or develop specific projects.
This course is designed for participants with a basic level of workshop proficiency; creatives from all disciplines are welcome. All required tools and materials are supplied.
