Art Kintsugi with Yoko Kawada | 4 HOURS

Regular price $250.00

In this workshop led by visiting artist and multi-disciplinary designer-maker Yoko Kawada, participants will learn about the philosophy, origins and history of traditional Kintsugi before being guided through the introductory technique of the Art Kintsugi method, following 7 essential steps using modern accessible materials (such as epoxy and gold metal) to gain an understanding of the repair process and create an original piece of Kintsugi art to take home.

Kintsugi is a centuries-old Japanese craftwork where broken ceramic objects are pieced back together using Urushi lacquer and gold dust based on the philosophy of Wabi Sabi, finding beauty in imperfection. The process transforms much loved, worn items into a beautifully crafted, new piece of art. It is a chance to live a more sustainable way and to rescue objects which would otherwise be discarded.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. All required tools and materials will be supplied, including a piece of broken ceramic to repair (due to time considerations, students will not be repairing their own items in the workshop, however Yoko does offer consultations by appointment for the repair of specific items).

Students will complete the workshop with their own piece of Kintsugi ceramic art to take home, and the skills required to continue to repair pieces themselves.
