Sashimono Bench Seat | 3 WEEKS

Regular price $925.00

Create and take home a small Japanese-style bench with a split top seat, crafted purely from solid Tasmanian Oak using hand-formed joinery. Suitable for complete beginners, this three-week course will introduce participants to traditional hand tools and techniques with a particular focus on the strength of traditional wedged mortise and tenon joinery for sturdy construction without the use of screws, nails or glue.

Over the course of three full-day sessions, students will learn how to accurately mark out joinery with a range of layout tools including bevel gauges, marking gauges, squares and marking knives. They will then be guided through cutting joinery and shaping wood by hand with chisels, Japanese saws, hand planes and spokeshaves.

All tools and materials supplied. This workshop is suitable for beginners and intermediate woodworkers who would like to refine their skills in hand-joinery. Perfect for students seeking to develop their skills in hand-tools with very little use of power tools; please note that due to the nature of this making process, some patience and elbow-grease will be required.

Bench seat dimensions (mm): 800 L x 330 H x 250 D
