Nom Nom
Nom Nom Candle Holder by South Australian artist Thomas Carvolth.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Thomas Carvolth is a metal fabricator and designer whose practice operates between industry, material investigation, and contemporary object-making. Rooted in a fascination with manufacturing processes and mechanical systems, his work explores the tension between utility and refinement, often recontextualising industrial methods and components through a more restrained and tactile lens.
Working across metal, timber, and glass, Carvolth approaches fabrication as both a technical and conceptual process. Experimentation with finish, form, and process is central to his practice, allowing material behaviour and production methodologies to inform the final outcome. His work is informed as much by functional engineering and historical manufacturing as it is by contemporary design discourse and sculptural sensibility.
Alongside his independent practice, Carvolth has collaborated with artists, designers, and institutions to realise projects that extend beyond fabrication alone, contributing to the development, refinement, and material resolution of complex works and environments.
At the core of his approach is an interest in permanence, utility, and cultural endurance — creating objects and outcomes that hold relevance beyond immediacy, while maintaining a strong connection to craft, process, and the physical act of making.
