Coalescence #2
Coalescence #2 by Alexis Mason
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alexis Mason is an emerging ceramic artist based in Adelaide, South Australia, whose practice explores the relationship between the human condition, natural environment and material. Working primarily in hand-building, she creates biomorphic vessels and sculptural forms through intuitive processes of building, carving and accumulation. Her work considers growth, transformation and connection, drawing on the organic structures and patterns of the natural world.
Coalescence explores growth as a process of accumulation, transformation and interdependence, their forms expanding and contracting as though responding to one another. Repeated ridges, bulges and branching structures build a sense of organic development, where each form appears to emerge from the last and remain in a state of becoming. Together, they suggest a relationship between individual bodies and a larger living system. Though distinct, they belong to a single living system, shaped through a shared process of growth, pressure and time.
