Two bottles (Mauve)
Two Bottles (Mauve) by Lily Morin
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lily Morin is a glass artist and designer whose practice is informed by mid-centuary design, architecture and the traditions of making passed between generations. Working primarily with blown glass, their work explores the relationship between historical forms, decorative craft and contemporary glassmaking.
Lily is drawn to pattern, textiles and folk art, and how, like glass, these practices and traditions carry knowledge passed down through generations. She explores these influences through Murrini, colour, pattern and form, referencing historical vessels and traditional techniques. It is a labour of love to endeavour to hone the craft of glass. When she makes, she questions ‘how can I not think of those who came before me?’. Those who dedicated themselves to teaching new generations of glassmakers and continuing the long-standing traditions they too inherited from their predecessors. This work is a continuation of this lineage, a way of learning, making and contributing to a tradition that has always been and will always be passed from one pair of hands to another.
