Hosted in JamFactory's Furniture Studio, this Continuing Professional Development program will provide architects with an in-depth overview of the end-to-end process of designing and making timber furniture with a focus on the production methods involved in manufacturing a solid timber chair.
Through practical demonstrations and discussion, this course highlights material behaviour, manufacturing workflows, and how design decisions impact durability, production efficiency and craft quality in the end product.
Learning Outcomes:
This course will cover various stages of the design, development and making process, including:
- product prototyping methods
- key joinery techniques
- thermo-mechanical forming processes
- jig design and fabrication
- material selection and suitability
- finishing methods
Students will complete the session with a certificate of completion for the accrual of 5 formal CPD points. This session is designed for architects seeking Continuing Professional Development, however participants of any profession are welcome to take part. No prior experience in woodworking required.
