 Oxygenium by Antoine Roille

ABOUT THE ARTIST

My practice moves between furniture, sculpture, and imagined life forms. I create ecosystems of objects that interact, move, glow, and respond to one another. I am interested in what happens when a space becomes inhabited by such a network of distinct beings: how it changes our attention, our sense of time, and our physical and emotional state. Together, they form environments with their own rhythms, where curiosity and contemplation can unfold.

Spirata lucea, commonly known as Oxygenium, is a rare organism from the Spirataceae family. It is said to grow in secluded places, where undisturbed surroundings allow it to flourish. At night, its wooden skin begins to glow, rising and falling in a slow breath. Those who sit beside it often become absorbed by its rhythm, forgetting the world beyond it. When specimens are in close proximity, their breathing gradually synchronises. The reason for this behaviour remains unknown.
