Softly wound, tightly bound
Softly wound, tightly bound by Eden Wellings
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Eden is a ceramicist who creates lighting sculptures through hand-building techniques. With a background in interior design and a focus on textiles, she weaves the qualities of fabric into her ceramic forms through weightlessness, folds, surfaces and creases. Her ceramic objects explore presence through the absence of space, light and their cast shadows.
Softly wound, tightly bound is a pendant sculpture exploring the relationship between material, memory and transformation. Working with ceramics and linen, the piece captures the tactile qualities of fabric within the permanence of clay. Porcelain is imprinted, folded, creased, bent and torn into repeated scroll forms, reflecting the softness and movement of
worn fabric.
